THE NORTHERN VIRGINIA FORAGE CONFERENCE will be at the Middleburg Community Center next Thursday, March 11th. The program starts at 9:30 a. m. and includes the latest research information on several interesting topics including: Establishing and Maintaining Legumes—Grass Mixtures; Economics of Pasture Fertilization and Weed Control; Stockpiled Tall Fescue for Calves and Yearlings; and Beef-Cow and Calf Performance on Year-Round Grazing System. At 2 p.m., we will visit the Virginia Forage Research Station 2 miles from the Community Center to observe wintering cow herds on various forage systems.

HORSEMEN’S SEMINAR—More than 50 nationally known equine .. .authorities will be speaking at the National Horsemen’s Seminar in Fredericksburg, Friday through Sunday, April 2-4. The Seminar will include lectures, panel discussion and visual presentations at !•': the Sheraton Motor Inn and live demonstrations on the nearby Rapidan River Farm. The Seminar is being sponsored by the Virginia Horse Council, V. P. I. Extension Division, Rapidan River Farm and the equine industry.

BEEF CATTLEMEN’S SHORT COURSE will be conducted on the V. P. I. Campus March 22-23 with emphasis on cow-calf and feeder cattle know-how. Sessions will be conducted on .such topics as nutrition, breeding^ management, herd care and health, forages, carcass evaluation, and marketing. Deadline for registering is March 10. CHINESE CHESTNUTS AND DOGWOODS—Response to the brief article in last week’s Rappahannock News regarding tree seedlings was excellent. The limited supply of 200 Chinese Chestnuts had been ordered before noon Monday and well over 300 dogwoods had been ordered by this time.
