Kenneth Embrey’s Timber Topper, Dr. Willie McCormick up, trying his best to stay with the speedy and clever jumper, was second. Mrs. Redmond Toerge’s good jumper Believe the Price ridden by Ross Pearce was third. A staunch supporter of local point-to-points for many years, Mrs. Toerge was happy to see all three of her horses entered come home “in the money.”
Last of the horse races was the Ben Venue, owner-rider timber race in the Seven Corners series. Madagascar, Boca Bird and Prince De De set the early pace, with August Acorn — last year’s winner of this race — and Free
Movement joining them on the downhill run. Prince De: De took the lead up the mountain on the last lap, but coming down Boca! Bird hugged the sharp left-handed turn and was on top going into, the second last. ':
He was soon passed by August Acorn and then by Free Movement who led all the way down the stretch to the finish. Second by a length to Randy Rouse’s Free Movement was David Semmes’s August Acorn, followed by Arch Kingsley’s Madagascar, Robert Green’s Prince De De and Roy Graham’s Boca Bird.
A fitting finale for a good day’s sport was the hound race. Follow
