IF A study conducted in Orange and Madison County is a clue of things to come, the State Water Control Board may be backing away from its. former Insistence that all sewage treatment systems—even those in rural areas —be designed and constructed as “regional” entities.
Some members of Planning District 9 listened in amazement as a consulting engineer reported that he could not justify a regional system to link Woodberry Forest School, the Town of Orange, and portions of Orange and Madison Counties. He said individual treatment systems would be better, and, furthermore, that the Water Control Board is apparently willing to go along with his recommendation.
“You mean we’re not dealing with another bunch of sewer lines running across farmlands?” asked Pete Luke of Rappahannock County, who had just been elected chairman <jf the RappahannockRapidan Planning Commission.
