“We decided to give private enterprise a chance to work... and now have a buyer and seller,” he said, adding that the “adjoining property owners carry some weight, but not a whole lot,” because there will always be some complaints by landowners adjacent to any landfill site. In response to a question from Davis, Luke said the supervisors supported this particular location for the landfill.
ALTHOUGH there are some federal grants available for the county to purchase a landfill site, Luke said that it was too late to apply for the funds this year and he was not aware of how much money would be available for the coming year.
