VIRGINIA’S General Assembly is meeting again amid renewed pressure to increase taxes. Some advocates of big government are despairing that these pressures may again be resisted, due to the fact that this is an election year and no politician wants to raise taxes when he is seeking the support of taxpaying voters.
Frankly, we think this concern for the taxpayers is healthy. We’re glad that the Delegates are nervous, and we hope their nervousness is translated^, into some other means of meeting state government financial needs than still another, unwanted tax increase.
Also facing the General Assembly is a proposal to reorganize and streamline, somewhat, state government. To our way of thinking, this might offer the best solution to the financial problems, as well.
