For a variety of reasons, many adults have been unable to compl> ete a regular high school program of instruction. However, a person can make considerable educational progress through a variety of experiences encountered in everyday life.
It is the purpose of the General Educational Development (GED) Testing Program to provide a means by which such educational experiences can be evaluated and recognized. The GED Tests provide persons with the opportunity of earning a high school etiuivalency diploma or certificate, making it possible for them to qualify for certain jobs, to gain promotions, and to pursue higher educational or other personal goals.
High school equivalency diplomas or certificates issued by Virginia Department of Education on the basis of satisfactory GED test scores are official documents and are nearly always accepted in the same manner as regular high school diplomas for meeting high scho
