THANKS in” large part to the bureaucratic tangle at the state level—and to the Delegates’ own lack of recognition of local problems—local taxes have been soaring in recent years. Much of these taxes have been made necessary by programs which the state decrees localities must adopt, but which it refuses to help finance. Localities aren’t even given sufficient flexibility to seek new revenue sources. The result has been constantly climbing local personal and real estate property taxes, and to add still higher state taxes on top of that would be too much to bear.
Our advice to the Delegates; Pare down that monstrous bureaucracy; you might then find that the state’s financial “needs” aren’t so tremendous, after all.D
