In regard to the success of the vocational programs, Fleetwood observed that out of 57 graduates who did not go on to college last year, 52 completed a vocational program or had a job entry skill. This percentage was above the 90 percent level suggested by the state. This year, said Fleetwood, the schools are attempting to identify non-college bound students in the tenth grade in an attempt to achieve a 100 percent figure with job entry skills.
In the special education programs, changes at the regional school next year will force corresponding changes in county plans. The all-day, elementary learning disabled program at Piedmont will be dropped next year and two half-day secondary classes instituted instead. This action, said Fleetwood, will mean transferring the two elementary students from Rappahannock to a program in Culpeper.
In addition, Fleetwood called for a full time speech program to be instituted by the 1978-79 school year. Piedmont will provide the county with a speech therapist two days a week instead of one day beginning this year, said Fleet
