Student take part
in Latin tourney
Several Wakefield Country Day School eighth grade students participated in the 49th Annual State Latin Tournament on Saturday at St. Agnes School in Alexandria.
The Latin Tournament, a statewide event held every year in April, is sponsored by the Classical Association of Virginia. Students participating in the tournament report to various regional centers for the two hour examination given to first through fourth year Latin students. In last year’s examination, Wakefield students finished sixth out of 126 school groups competing in the tournament.
After the examination, the Wakefield group had lunch at Mason’s Oyster Bar and toured the “Old Town” section of Alexandria.
Students from Wakefield competing in the tournament this year were Michael Blake, Jeena Mullins, Lorraine Daniels, Halimah Holliday, Jerry Smith, William Warshauer, Chet Fannon, John Kline, Raymond Riddell and Joy Andreasen. □
