Before coming to the Seaford Center, McGarvey worked as a psychotherapist for the Potomac Foundation for Mental Health and the Montgomery General Hospital Day Treatment Center. He's also been director of student affairs at the Society of African Missions Seminary, a guidance counselor for the Philadelphia public school system and a social worker for the Philadelphia Department of Public Assistance.
In addition to his experience in counseling. McGarvey has a background in business. During two and a half years at Saint Joseph's Abbey for Trappist Monks, he received training in business administration. As assistant bursar, there he was responsible for fund raising, bookkeeping, accounting and disbursement of funds to various charitable organizations.

July ended and August began with a bang as several "thunder bumpers" rolled through the county, bringing rain, wind, lightning and thunder.
