arriving on June 9, she has assisted pastor David Moore, particularly in the area of youth activities. Although a youth choir had been organized at the Washington church six or seven months previously, participation was limited. Moore was interested in attracting additional young people into the church.
“We just started the youth group when I came. There are a lot of youth in the area that could be drawn in—that’s why David asked the Board to send me.”
Cindy reported that 15 to 20 kids now belong. Projects over the last month have included participation in Fish Net ’78 (an interdenominational gathering in Front Royal), Christian discussion sessions, visitations to homes of congregation members and fun activities like bowling and a trip to Kings Dominion. Cindy recognizes that she’s been the driving force behind the success of the youth group and knows there’s bound to be a letdown when she goes back home August 13 to prepare for school. “It’s our hope that the group will keep going,” she said. Although the main thrust of the youth program is towards teenagers in seventh through twelfth grades, younger children haven’t been ignored. Cindy has held “kids day” at the church
