It would help if the turn out for the Athletic Association’s organizational meeting on August 7 included a couple of people with some experience in soccer but the program can begin without it. Three years ago, the newly formed Piedmont Recreation Association in northern Fauquier began activities with soccer coached by a group of men and women who’d never kicked a soccer ball before, much less passed it with their heads. The program was a success despite the lack of experience and the following year, most of the adults attended a soccer seminar in Prince William. Now, the county has several soccer teams and interest in the sport grows every year.
The sport could go over as well in Rappahannock if it gets off to a good start. Anyone interested in being there for the beginnings can come to the elementary school at 7:30 on Monday, August 7, or call Don Keithley at 6753431 to volunteer.
