Culpeper Ordinance
Culpeper County’s zoning ordinance provides for trailers as housing for farm labor. According to Mary Lou Mullins from the county planning and zoning office, the ordinance was amended in 1976 to permit trailers for bona fide farm tenants who make their living off the farm where the mobile home is located.
Applications for farm trailers are referred to the planning commission for recommendation and then forwarded to the supervisors for approval. Special use permits are issued for a specified time period, generally five years. The applicant must sign a bond, usually $500, to cover removal of the trailer when it is no longer needed or when the special use permit expires, whichever comes first.
The trailers are checked each year to be sure they are being used according to permit stipulations. In addition, the Culpeper ordinance requires inspection
