1. Any time that a fire is built in the open air within 150 feet of woodlands (or any other material capable of spreading a fire), the fire must be totally extinguished before it is left untended.
2. All reasonable care and precaution must be taken prior to any open burning.
3. Any time a fire escapes into woodlands or brushlands as a result of carelessness, negligence, or intention, the person responsible for the fire will be liable for the expenses of suppressing the fire. While these state laws may seem complicated, they are purposeful. The vast majority of forest fires are caused by man. In fairness to all, and for the protection of our resources, we must enforce the fire laws.
