Merit, Officer’s Degree; and two Purple Hearts.

After the war Dr. Bestebreurtje came to the United States where his parents lived, and practiced law in New York City. In 1952 he felt called to the ministry and graduated from Union Theological Seminary in New York City. He was ordained in the United Presbyterian Church, U.S.A. and served two churches in the New York area before going to Louisville, Kentucky.

Under his leadership, a mission church of less than a hundred members, the Calvin Presbyterian Church, grew to be the largest of his denomination in the Commonwealth of Kentucky. For his many accomplishments there in both the eccumenical and social fields, he was awarded two degrees of Doctor of Divinity.
