Buntin announced his candidacy for re-election as sheriff on Monday.
“I would like to continue to serve the people of the county. Besides that, I’ve been in this line of work for so long. It has been my life work beginning with my military service when I was an MP with the U. S. Army,” said Buntin in explaining his decision to run. He has been Sheriff of Rappahannock since defeating then incumbent John Walker Jenkins in 1975. Prior to that Buntin served in the Virginia State Police for 29 years.
