Rappahannock County, along with the rest of Virginia, traded snowfall for wetter precipitation last weekend as rain began on Friday night and continued on to Monday morning. The steady downfall, turning heavy at times, sent creeks climbing out of their banks, and closed county roads. Rappahannock public schools cancelled classes on Monday for the eleventh day this winter.
High water flooded onto roadbeds Saturday night, subsided and then reflooded Sunday evening, according to assistant resident engineer Doug Bywaters. Route 626 at Rock Mills, Route 644 at Slate Mills, Routes 637 and 628 near Flint Hill and Route - 618 at Laurel Mills were all impassable, due to flooding, Bywaters reported.
