Plans Opening
The opening day of the Farmers’ Market, a cooperative effort for the sale of local produce, is scheduled for 8 a.m. Saturday, May 5, at a location at the new building of the Rappahannock Farmers’ Cooperative just west of Washington.
Pearl Clarke of Amissville was named as chairman of the committee to plan Opening Day when the Executive Committee of the Market met last week.
At this meeting, officers for the Market were elected as follows: president and manager, Truman Keesey, Washington; vice president and head vendor, Silas Martin, Jr., Amissville; recording secretary, Pearl Clarke, Amissville; corresponding secretary, Deborah Kenney, Boston; and treasurers, Frank and Mary Neal, Castleton.
Sidney Mank, Washington, was named to the Board of Directors and four others were nominated but have not been contacted.
The Executive Board will meet again April 10 for further discussion and planning of the Market opening. Some thoughts for discussion will be a ribbon cutting for the opening and prizes to be given away.
