The average salary in Rappahannock for 1977-78 compared with a county teachers average salary in 1968-69 ($6,330) shows a 65 per cent increase. Fifty-two counties show a higher percentage increase for the same period while the average statewide increase was 76 per cent.
High Pupil Teacher Ratios
During 1977-78, the pupilteacher ratio at Rappahannock elementary school was 22.42—12th highest in the state. At Rappahannock County High School, the pupil teacher ratio, at 18.32, was 17th highest among Virginia’s county high schools. Only 13 county school

The Child
April 2-8 has been set aside as the national Week of the Young Child during the International Year of the Young Child (1979). In commemoration of this week, the staff of Sursum Corda School and Day Care Center of Washington invites the public to come by and observe their program of day care and instruction for preschoolers (ages 2-5) and their after-school program and enrichment classes for school-age children (6-12 years).
The school is open from 7:00 to 5:30 Monday through Friday.
Examples of the children’s art work will be on display at the school. In addition, Sursum Corda will have a photographic collection depicting the school's work with young children on display at the Rappahannock County Library. The public is encouraged to view this attractive display, which will be at the library through April 13.
