Change July 1
Beginning July 1, the individual accompanying a driver who has a learner’s permit must be 18 years of age or older and seated beside the learner. There are no restrictions on the age of the accompanying driver under the current law.
Other legislation passed by the 1980 General Assembly makes it a Class 4 misdemeanor for a minor to obtain alcoholic beverages by knowingly using a falsified driver’s license. Upon conviction, the court may revoke the offender’s driver’s license for up to one year and -or impose a fine not to exceed $100.
In addition, new legislation makes it a Class 1 misdemeanor to make, advertise, or sell a simulated driver’s license, and makes it a Gass 2 misdemeanor to possess a simulated driver’s license. Class 1 misdemeanors are punishable by up to one year in jail andor a fine not to exceed $1,000. Class 2 misdemeanors are punishable by up to six months in jail and-or a fine not to exceed $500.
Also effective July 1, the fee for registering a house trailer will be $15.

Discharged
Sergeant Beverly Bliss, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Murphy J. Reid of Castleton, has recently been honorably discharged from the U.S. Air Force after serving four years at Griffiss AFB, New York. Sgt. Bliss was presented a plaque in recognition of her dedicated service and devotion to duty in support of the 416th Bombardment Wing, Strategic Air Command.
