To the editor:
The Washington Volunteer Fire Department recently benefited from two generous gifts, and I would like to express our thanks publicly.
The Ladies Auxiliary of the WVFD presented us with a check from the proceeds of the Thrift Shop and their other fund raising efforts. This group, under the leadership of Ruth Clark, works hard all year round and their contribution at this time is particularly helpful.
We also received from June Jordan the proceeds of the recycling center, which is now located at the new fire house. June’s generosity is sincerely appreciated. We urge all citizens of Rappahannock County to bring their newspapers and aluminum cans to the recycling center, and we thank those who have done so in the past year.
The Washington Volunteer Fire Department is facing a severe ftinds shortage. The donations from June Jordan and the Ladies Auxiliary are a big help, but with today's prices and inflation, that money will be gone all too soon. Like all the county’s departments, we receive no operating funds from the county, and we receive no pay or reimbursement for ourselves. We are ready to respond day or night, whenever and wherever we are needed, and we ask only that the people of Rapahannock support us through their donations. It is only in this way that we can continue to be of service to the county.
