Washington cabinet maker Peter Kramer played Santa Claus to the county the day before Christmas, offering the board of supervisors a new courthouse clock. If accepted, it will replace the old Coca-Cola timepiece that was hung over the scales of justice in the upstairs court room since time immemorial. The impetus for designing a clock came some time ago, Kramer explained, when real estate agent Roger Batchelder volunteered to buy a clock for the courthouse. “I said not to do that, that I’d make one.” In response, the supervisors authorized $75 to be Spent on “works” for a clock. That was in 1978. “The moods of an artist are funny, Kramer joked in explaining the lapse between commission and completion of the project. “I finally got the design in my head and found the time to do the work.”
There will be a student-faculty volleyball game on Friday, January 8th, beginning at 8 p.m. at the Rappahannock County High School. Proceeds will benefit the annual 7th grade class trip to Williamsburg. Admission is $1.00.
