It is sad to see a long and distinguished career end the. way that of Robert L. Suthard is ending.
Not once in all the years of public service had the slightest breath of scandal ever touched Bob Suthard. If there was any man I regarded as a model of ethical behavior, often under tough circumstances, it would be him.
And yet regretfully, Mr. Suthard, a former State Police superintendent, picked by Gov. Douglas * Wilder to be his Secretary of Public Safety, resigned under a cloud.
I don’t have to go into all the details for they have been widely published and broadcast. Certainly, under the circumstances, Bob Suthard did the right thing in submitting his resignation, the governor Wisely accepted it and Attorney General Mary Sue Terry very propeny undertook an investigation,
j I have admired Bob Suthard for ids decency, his good humor and his contributions tolfcw enforcement. I believe him when he says he at no time had any intention of keeping any of the money he was given while in Japan.
