Virginia Yount of Wairenton also had an excellent presentation on mineral identification which earned her second place. Third prize was won by Trevor Herndon of Warrenton for his study of plate tectonics.
Several honorable mentions were made. These included Willie D’Angelo-Horvath of Linden, Colleen Harrell of Haymarket and Scott Racer of Berryville.
Members of Wakefield’s Science Department were impressed with the quality and sophistication of the projects; more students undertook more difficult enquiries.
In addition, even students who do not take a course in science participated; showing how science effects all aspects of life.
