• The Christmas card mailed out by Senator Charles Robb shows, as usual, a phonograph of Robb, his wife, Lynda Bird, and their daughters, Lucinda, Cathy and Jennifer.
The simple message says, “With the hope that 1992 will be a better year for all of us—we wish you a joyous holiday season.”
Certainly, one hopes, no matter of what political persuadion, the next year will be a better one for Sen. Robb than the politically and personally devastating year just passed—a year full of media attention to his Virginia Beach lifestyle while governor and the now famous tape recording of Gov. Wilder.
Two of Sen. Robb’s top lieutenants who resigned under fire, David McCloud and Bobby Watson, are working elsewhere now, while a third, former press secretary Steve Johnson, is reportedly writing a book about Robb. All three aides remain under scrutiny of a grand jury investigating release of the Wilder tape recording.
It’s hard to see how 1992 could be any worse for Robb, though it could get considerably worse for the three former aides if the grand jury hands down indictments.
