RICHMOND — The system never gave Alesha Johnson a chance. Her family watched as she was stalked, threatened and beaten by her ex-boyfriend, Larry Mack.
Mr. Mack was arrested twice, only to be released each time on an unsecured bond. He tormented Alesha and her family, making them fearful to leave their house in Roanoke. Alesha’s mother, Sylvia McCullum, waited, counting on the legal system for help but none came.
Alesha’s terror ended this past October when Mr. Mack killed her and then himself.
Questions about why the legal system allowed Mr. Mack to stalk and murder Alesha remain unanswered.
