The Board of Supervisors recently made a $150,000 bid for the abandoned Aileen plant and wants to change it from an eyesore into an income property for the county. The paper has followed the Aileen story through the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality’s sampling, testing and recommendations to the county’s bid. Now we wait for Aileen Inc.’s response.
Meanwhile, we took an in-depth look at agriculture in the county by featuring prominent area farmers and agricultural businesses. Ragged Mountain Resource Center hosted a series of presentations on agricultural issues by some extremely knowledgeable speakers. We "plan to continue coverage of agriculture again this year.
