Investigators say
it may be Pruitt

A man cutting trees on his property in western Fauquier near the Fauquier-Rappahannock county line Saturday morning made a grisly discovery that may bring some closure to the case of a Castleton woman missing for over two weeks.
The unidentified property owner was clearing land for an orchard about 11 a.m. when he came upon a body investigators feel certain is that of 19-year-old Jessica Pruitt.
At the moment he called the j Sheriff's Office, the missing woman's mother and other relatives were continuing the search, scouring the woods in the Chester Phelps Wildlife Preserve south of Remington. Capt. Fred PfeifT of the Criminal Investigations Division located the family, who called off their search and returned home.
PfeifT was afcompanied by \ Rappahannock County Sheriff Larry Sherertz and Warrenton Police Detective James Hartman, who had served as lead investigator since Pruitt's disappearance.
Pruitt was last seen June 15 when she left work with an acquaintance^ Maurice Bailey, 20, of Warrenton, who had asked her for a ride. Pruitt's car was found two days later In a dead-end street in a residential section of Warrenton, and investigators have been handling the missing persons case as though it were a homicide.
