The Old Rag Mountain Pony Club capped off a busy spring with a successful showing at the Virginia Regional Show Jumping Rally at Frying Pan Park in Herndon last weekend.
The season started with an art raffle held at the Old Dominion Hunt Point-to-Point Races at Ben Venue on April 7 that, thanks to many generous donations by local artists, made over $2,500 to be put towards camp expenses.
Bi-vyeekly lessons at David and Dudley Semmes’ lovely Indian Run Farm in Huntly took place in April and May.
June’s activities began with a trophy winning entry in the Flint Hill fireman’s parade on June 15. Allison and Katherine Russo rode two of Sherry Hamill-Huff’s horses while Christine and Kimberly Pankow, Emma and Abigail Smith, Caroline Massie and Brooke Hatcher marched on foot and carried the banner. They all performed a chant and simple dance.
The following Sunday saw check-in for a week of Pony Club Camp at Gus and Sandra Forbush’s generously donated Foxhall Farm. Twenty-one campers survived five full days starting at 7 a.m. and not ending until all ponies were fed and happy at 5:30 p.m.
