Castleton Volunteer Fire Department was advertising their annual carnival to be held July 6, 7 and 8. First prize would be a pony; second prize a television and seven other prizes, all savings bonds.
Sperryville’s carnival was advertised for the next week with the grand prize being a 1961 Biscayne Chevrolet and Black Walnut Ladderback chairs.
Harrison Powers, son of Mr. and Mrs. John H. Powers of Flint Hill, won the State 4-H Sheep Shearing Contest held at Blacksburg last week during State Short Course. He will represent Virginia in the national contest to be held this fall at Indianapolis.
Mr. T.M. Johnston was the Rappahannock County delegate to the Virginia State Republican Convention held Saturday in Richmond at he John Marshall Hotel. Mrs. Johnston and daughters, Kaye and Carolyn accompanied him to Richmond.
