Several of the Purple Martins that arrived at my Flint Hill site in early March are still feeding their hatchlings and others have successfully fledged the first birds of the season. Nests completed by yearling birds, which are birds that fledged last year and arrive weeks after adults, now hold three to six pure white eggs.
Females normally lay one egg a day, usually in the morning, until her clutch is completed. At this point incubation is nearing its end for the later arrivals also.
