Bike Virginia rolled into Amissville in the early hours of Tuesday morning, June 26. The first bikers arrived at Amissville Baptist Church for refreshments of trail mix. banana bread, fresh fruit, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, fig newtons, Gatorade and ice cold water around 7 a.m.
The volunteers had been there since 6 a.m. in anticipation of the first arrivals. At first a few bikers trickled in and then the rush was on. For four hours a steady stream of tandems and single bikes, bikes built for two, mom’s and dad’s with special bikes that carried the littlest riders, age four pedaled down US 211 to a small haven on Route 642.
