Aug. 17, 1961

Luther Payne of Washington caught a seven pound 13 ounce German carp Saturday while fishing in Happy Creek on the Shenandoah River near Front Royal. Mr. Payne said that it took him more than 20 minutes to land the fish which was 33 inches long. He was using sweet com for bait.

John B. Browning, son of Mr. and Mrs. John S. Browning of Flint Hill enlisted in the Army on Aug. 7. Browning, a 1961 graduate of the University of Virginia, will upon completion of Basic Training at Fort Jackson, S.C. be assigned to the Army Counter Intelligence Corps.

A five-week first aid course will be given at Castleton fire house each Monday night beginning Aug. 21. The classes which begin at 7:30 p.m. will be conducted by Mr. John Parker of Remington, who is a qualified first aid instructor.
