New Years’ Day has been celebrated on Jan. 1 since 45 B.C. when Julius Caesar established the Julius calender. Since that time people in cities around the world have gathered en masse to celebrate the arrival oftthe New Year.
Countless people remember the tradition of Guy Lombardo with his Royal Canadian Band playing at the Waldorf Astoria in New York every New Year’s Eve.
The band was founded in 1916 and was the longest running act in show business history.
The band introduced over 500 hit songs. The Guy Lombardo New Year’s Eve party was the longest running annual special party in radio history. The 1979 program marked his 50th consecutive broadcast.
