Our View
Citizen of the
Year, 2001
It has been a divisive year in Rappahannock County. Perhaps there have been too many issues on the burner—too many issues of consequence for our unusually active community to adequately assimilate and critique. There too have been charges, cast by a very few, about the abilities of some of the elected and appointed bodies—the Board of Supervisors unfortunately being one of those. Thank God that Pete Estes is at the helm of that body. Just imagine it otherwise. Thank God we have a man of his patience and perception in that position. Thank God that we have the good fortune to have him to fjuide that most important Board in this small County, and that he has been willing to serve in that sometimes thankless position to the benefit of us all. Thank God that those who serve with him have learned of his values and reflect some of his wisdom in their conduct and in rendering their decisions. Here is a man who serves for the love of his home—Rappahannock County—and not for selfaggrandizement or a hidden agenda or for financial gain. Here is a man from who we can all learn— about values, about dedication, about selflessness, and about how actions speak louder than words. Under Pete Estes chairmanship the Board of Supervisors works hard and well, and it has made and will continue to make decisions that are of benefit first to the County and its citizens. We can all learn from Pete Estes, and we can all thank him for the efforts that he has made on behalf of Rappahannock County.
