road at Stonewall Jackson High School on Tuesday, Dec. 18. Down 20 to 6 at the end of the first period. Coach Purdhams* chargers came storming back with a 19 point second quarter that put the Panthers down by four at the half.
A tough third period put the Panthers on top, as they outscored the home team 18 to 11 to take a 43 to 40 lead into the final quarter. The game was a real slugfest as both teams fought to win the thriller. With the game tied in the final minute, RCHS senior Jeff Ritenour, was fouled and made both ends of a one-and-one freethrow.
When the final Stonewall shot fell short, the Panthers celebrated their first victory, a 55 to 53 win over the Generals. Junior Kerry Grigsby was the heart and soul of the team that night, leading all Rapp scorers with 19 points and playing one heck of a game on both ends of the court. i
The JV squad also won their contest earlier in the evening, but not in such dramatic fashion. Overpowering from the beginning, the JV Panthers shot out to a nine point first quarter lead and never looked back. The final was RCHS 67 and the JV team from Stonewall 41.
Sophomore John Letsen and freshman Monte Christian led the Panther side with 16 points each.
The Jr. Panthers also saw action that afternoon, but couldn’t share in the celebration that night as they fell to North Fork Middle School by the score of 42 to 32. Eighth-grader Jacob Dodson led all JP scorers with 11 points. Will Norman added six in the losing effort.
