Garfield Wharton
County native
Garfield Wallace Wharton, 68, of Brightwood died Tuesday, Dec. 18 at his residence.
He was born June 3, 1933 in Rappahannock County and was the son of the late Ashby Wharton and Pearl Wharton.
Mr. Wharton was employed at Big M in Culpeper. He enjoyed church and also rabbit and coon hunting as well as bluegrass music.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Ellen Wharton of Brightwood; two daughters, Brenda Ann Mitchell and Judy Kay Heflin; four sons, Raymond Wharton, Ricky Wharton, Jerry Wharton and Garfield Wharton; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Additional survivors include a brother, William Wharton and four sisters, Virginia Coppage, Lillian Ford, Gennie Wood and Lucille Compton.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a granddaughter, April Wood and a sister, Nellie Utz.
Funeral services were conducted on Thursday, Dec. 20 at Preddy Funeral Home in Madison with the Rev. E.T. Bourne officiating.
Interment was in Sperryville Cemetery.
