Rappahannock News Staff Writer < Doug Obendorf was on his ladder taking down the ceiling of an old farmhouse in Viewtown last week when a shower of plaster and dust came down from under the stairway.
He got off his ladder after he spotted a small piece of paper in the pile of debris on the floor.
“ItSvas completely covered in dirt, just a square piece of paper. I kept rubbing it and the more I brushed it off, the more I could see a picture,” the Amissville carpenter said.
It turned out to be a professional quality photograph, a very old one, 100 or more years old, of a baby dressed in a gown.
Obendorf, who works for Roger Cordani General Contracting, was helping to restore the farmhouse, circa 1880, that Helen Dixon of nearby Dixie Meadows owns.
“I thought it was worth coming down the ladder to look at this with all the history in the house,” said Obendorf.
