senior Dr. Humphries or his son. The only identification on the back of the photo is the word “Studios” and it lists locations in Philadelphia, Washington, D.C. and Atlantic City, N.J. Handwritten on the back of the photo in pencil is “Mr. J. V. Humphries Viewtown.” There are other words but they are illegible.
Dixon is trying to locate members of the Humphries family or someone who knows where the relatives are to give them the photograph.
“It belongs to them,” said Dixon. “I think it should be in their family.”
Obendorf said that a few days after he found the photograph, he and another carpenter, Sam Ruble, were taking down more ceiling and found another piece of paper. This one appears to be a child practicing writing with the name Humphries spelled on the piece erf paper along with numbers. ^
Obendorf says he’s neyer found anything like a baby picture or a child’s handwritten note or anything so connected to a house like this. “Maybe someone wanted us to find it,” he said.
