If I have to be the lightning rod to get our dispatchers the help they need, to be trained as fire/rescue dispatchers, adding a second dispatcher for a minimum of two dispatchers on duty 24/7, and better pay— then let the storm begin.
My sole reason for writing the letters, and verbal complaints to the sheriff over the last five years is to improve our dispatch system that every citizen and responder relies on everyday. The dispatcher is the first link in any emergency response, and a mistake there can cost a citizen or a first responder his or her life.
For three years the sheriff has promised to fix the many dispatch problems. Since the promises have not been fulfilled, it was time to put the issue in front of the citizenry.
