Skinner speaks to students in elementary schools, high schools and colleges and other community groups and his inspirational talks emphasize the importance of making responsible decisions regarding drinking and other high-risk behaviors.
“I live with the consequences of some decisions I made dining my time at Radford University,” says Skinner. “Unfortunately, the results of the decisions I made while I was only 20-yearsold will be with me throughout the rest of my life.”
On April 22 at 7 p.m., the high school will present a panel discussion on “Alcohol: Access and Accountability, What Parents Need to Know” in the high school band room.
Panel members include representatives of the Alcohol Beverage Control Board, Virginia State Police, high school D.A.R.E. program and Commonwealth’s Attorney Peter Luke.
Each presenter will give a brief presentation on the problem of underage access to alcohol from their own area of expertise. Afterwards, panel members will answer questions from the audience.
Four months ago Rappahannock was struck by a tragedy involving a teenager who was killed in an accident on the way home from a late-night party in a car driven by his brother. Several party attendees have pleaded guilty to underage possession of alcohol. Email: makuhn@timespapers.com.
