Thirteen days ago, Tbm, our
much-loved one-year-old orange tabby, disappeared and never came home. I put up posters at the Flint Hill Post Office, wrote a notice on Rappnet, and called all our nearby neighbors to report his loss.
Many fine folks on Rappnet answered my plea for help with lots of helpful advice - mainly “keep the faith: cats have nine lives!” But Tbm didn’t show up and no one had seen him. Things were beginning to look grim.
Tom is no ordinary kitty. Of course, he is most special because he is our kitty. But he also is well known around these parts because he was featured in the “Cabin Fever” photograph on the front page of the Rappahannock News on Jan. 29. Unwilling to go out and play in the three-foot snowdrifts, Tom and his brother, Sawyer, stayed in the house and, not surprisingly, had a few brotherly disagreements while they were all cooped up. I caught one such “boxing match” on camera.
As the days went by, we all grieved Tbm’s “missing in action” status, but I never gave up hope. Tbm’s brother, Sawyer, however grieved terribly. I even caught him play- • ing chase with a possum in the front yard one evening, like he used to play with Tom. Sawyer in his grief had lost
