Flags will be flying, tents will be flapping and savory aromas and exotic rhythms will be in the air Sunday, April 25 from 12 noon to 4 p.m. during the Second International Festival at Rappahannock County High School.
This year festival events will center around an exciting performance by Mike Russell’s “Black Heritage” band. The group is based in Berlin, Germany and has played concerts all over the world, including Johannesburg, South Africa, Brazil, Greece and the U.S.
Russell describes their music as “Afro-Soul.” The musicians are an international mix featuring KERA, “the Voice,” who was born in Madagascar and grew up in Senegal; Reinhard Katemann, born in Germany, who performs on the piano, and U.S. jazz man Mike Russell. They will be joined by jazz bassist David Marsh III and percussionist Ronnie Shaw.
Prior to the festival, “Black Heritage” will perform at the high school on April 22 at 2 p.m. and also work with the student jazz group, which may perform a few numbers with the band at the festival.
