gates will be open early - perhaps not quite as early as last year - but certainly by 2 p.m. so that folks can stake out their piece of the field for commemorating our nation's birthday.
Hoping to improve each year, the committee is still looking for hot air balloons, helicopters, and more entertainment. Bobby Glasker and Friends is already signed on as well as Richard Brady and his Shenandoah Travelers. Local resident John Kiser apparently can set them up with a chainsaw juggler. Oh, what a that will make.
“I just wanted to get the word out that it’s going to happen again,” beamed Burke who has been formally trained in the art of pyrotechnics and hails from the days when folks would gather near Avon Hall for the annual display. With stiffer restrictions attached to fireworks and their proximity to crowds, that site was abandoned many years ago much to the chagrin of county residents. . For many years, you had to travel outside the county to see fireworks until last year when through the combined efforts of the Sperryville Volunteer Fire Department and the Fletcher family, fireworks came back big.
This year, the Fourth of July falls on a Friday. If it’s raining, count on Saturday, July 5, as a rain date. “We might even be able to do it on Sunday, July 6," reassured Burke, who is happy that they have a weekend to work with.
