McCarthy was notified of the grant award by Steve Galyean, Virginia Tourism Corporation’s Director of Development. “We received a number of quality applications—with a limited amount of funds available for the Spring 2008 Virginia Tburism Corporation Marketing Leverage Program,” said Galyean. “Your project, Rappahannock County Tourism Website and Website Marketing, will help realize our common goal of attracting more people to Virginia, enticing them to stay longer and spend more money. With a diminished budget, we are constantly seeking partnerships, particularly through our grant program. Thank you for your commitment to work with us. Again, congratulations on you- grant award.”

“Our grant program is just another important example of the public-private partnership VTC enjoys with our tourism industry,” said Alisa Bailey, president and CEO of the Virginia Tourism Corporation. “These grants provide matching funds that help communities increase the impact of tourism bringing more visitors and jobs for our citizens.”

The Office of the County Administrator will contract for the design, content and marketing of the county wide tourism website through its competitive bidding process. The partnering organizations will meet to develop specifications for the project and requests for proposals are anticipated for release in early June.

The impetus for applying for the tourism grant grew out of the Living Towns meeting held May 31, 2007 in Sperryville. More than 100 people participated in the meeting that was held at the Schoolhouse, which is now The Link, Rappahannock's community center. The Living Towns program agenda included presentations by other rural localities that have successfully initiated
