have not included in recent years. I studied a number of works by Schubert and Brahms in both solo and chamber music when I was still a student. Although I greatly admired their works, I always felt a little overwhelmed by the tradition and standards set by generations of great performers and did not feel I could find my own voice in them. I may have been slightly biased by the fact that both Schubert and Brahms were two of the top ten most frequently programmed composers in Japan when I was growing up.” Takao went on to explain that it was not until she began to play the music, and “found I couldn’t stop practicing” that she was certain the time had come to include these works.
