Tears of grief, tears of joy, bursts of applause and cheers of encouragement punctuated the 2008 Senior Scholarship Awards Assembly held at Rappahannock County High School last Thursday.

Guidance Director Jason Gochenour officiated as scholarship winners, many accompanied by parents and family members, joined scholarship donors and presenters, teachers and administrators, and the entire tenth through twelfth grade classes for the ceremony.

Together, the assembled company witnessed the generosity of the local community, celebrated the many student successes, and grieved the lost loved ones in whose memory many awards were given.

In all, nearly 60 awards totaling over $60,000 were presented to 30 different students, including several graduates of’05, ‘06. or ’07 with renewable scholarships from those years.

Following the ceremony, the sun broke through the clouds as award winners and their families joined donors, faculty, and other community members in the courtyard for a celebratory reception sponsored by the Headwaters Next Step program.

Congratulations to all the scholarship winners and best of luck to them on the path of higher education.
