On Saturday, May 31, at 8 p.m. the pianist Naoko Takao returns to the Theatre at Washington, Virginia to play a concert of classical music which will include works by Brahms, Schubert and Albeniz. This will be Takao’s fifth concert here in Little Washington.
Naoko Takao, a native of Japan, maintains an active performing career as recitalist, orchestral soloist, and chamber musician in the United States and abroad. Since coming to the U.S. in 1984, she has been a recipient of many awards and scholarships including the gold medal in the 2000 San Antonio International Piano Competition and, most recently, the award of the S&R Foundation in recognition of her contribution towards furthering Japanese-American understanding through music.
The music to be played at the upcoming concert includes die Sonata in C minor, D958 by Franz Schubert; three works by Johannes Brahms: Intermezzo in B minor, Op. 119, No. 1, Capriccio in B minor, Op. 76, No. 2 and Rhapsody in B minor, Op. 79, No. 1; and three works by Isaac Albeniz: Evocacion, (Book 1 Iberia), El Corpus en Sevilla (Book 1 Iberia), and Triana (Book 11 Iberia).
