Dr. Tom Massie, Jr., founder of Rose Hill Veterinary Practice on Route 211 in Washington, is one of200 volunteers who will dedicate their time and talents while in New Orleans to help refurbish animal shelters in three city parishes identified by the Louisiana Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
Massie is participating in the American Veterinary Medical Foundations firstever volunteer project accompanying the associations annual convention July 19-22 in New Orleans.
Many area shelters are still struggling to recover from the effects of Hurricane Katrina, and shelter staffs are in need of additional hands and funding to focus on facility repairs and touchup jobs, according to the association. In the campaign to rebuild New Orleans, the citys animal shelters are often overlooked.
