Headwaters to expand its programs that benefit Rappahannock's school children. The tremendous financial success of the 200? Taste event, in particular, allowed Headwaters this year to grow its Starfish Mentoring program to serve more children. One aspect of the expansion will be the establishment of a common meeting place for mentors and proteges at “The Link” community center in Sperryville.
“Our Starfish program has been in great need of a center where mentors can meet with their young proteges in a stimulating environment. At the center, well have group activities and resources such as games, books, art supplies, and a bank of computers with Internet access/ Headwaters' Executive Director Cole Johnson explained. “Through the generosity of the underwriters, sponsors, and patrons of last year's 10th Anniversary Taste of Rappahannock, as well as the exuberant participation of the sellout crowd of attendees, we were able to raise enough money to fond such a center for one year.
“The expansion of Starfish—a result of the enormous community support at last year's fundraising event—makes this year's Ttiste of Rappahannock man* important than ever," Johnson continued. “In order to sustain the expansion, and reach out to more1 families whom> children have not had the opportunity to participate in the program, we must be equally successful in our fondrmsing this year."
